Listeria Identification HiVeg Agar Base (PALCAM) is a specialized dehydrated microbiological culture medium supplied by HiMedia Laboratories for the selective isolation and identification of Listeria species. The product is identified by catalogue number MV1064 and is formulated using vegetable-derived peptones instead of animal-based peptones.

PALCAM Agar is a selective and differential medium containing selective agents and indicator systems that support the recovery of Listeria while suppressing accompanying microorganisms. Listeria species typically produce grey-green colonies with a black centre and black halo due to esculin hydrolysis.

The medium is supplied as a homogeneous, free-flowing dehydrated powder. It is prepared at 69.0 g/L, sterilized, cooled and supplemented with PALCAM Selective Supplement FD061 before pouring into sterile Petri plates. HiMedia specifies a final pH of 7.0 0.2 at 25C.
